Hi, I’m Jeffery. Welcome!

When you are carrying the weight of the past, even the first step toward change can feel impossible. Together, we will examine the coping strategies that are dragging down your quality of life and replace them with choices that move you toward real, felt change—because your life, your goals, and your well-being matter.

FAQs

What does therapy look like with you?

While every session is different, the one enduring piece is the relationship I build with you. It’s the vessel towards the changes you’re looking for. Through this relationship, I’ll be direct when necessary, quiet and reflective in another, and continue to push you towards weekly change. Oh, and humor. Therapy can suck sometimes! Making sure you enjoy coming is important too!

What is your theoretical orientation?

I align with the model of ACT in that we as humans struggle with a lot! I do not believe that there’s always a THERE, THERE. Instead, as we try to cope with what’s happening and/or happened, we become rigid and averse towards our values and goals. Through my approach, I use a humanistic lens that blends third wave approaches (e.g., mindfulness, etc.) and help you increase your psychological flexibility and continue towards living a rich and full meaningful life.

What is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)?

Created by Dr. Stephen Hayes in the early 1980’s, ACT is a empirically-based, psychological intervention that utilizes mindfulness, acceptance, and behavioral change to encourage movement towards the clients self-defined goals.

What is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)?

Created by Dr. Francine Shapiro in 1987, this evidenced-based practice considered by The Department of Veteran Affairs as a ‘Gold Standard’ treatment for PTSD. Through the use of bilateral stimulation and present-moment focus, the client is exposed to past, present, or future cognition’s, memories, or dreams to resolve trauma symptoms and address negative core beliefs about themselves. Highly regimented, this therapy is less ‘talk therapy’ and more ‘do’ therapy.

How long does treatment last?

Highly dependent upon your clinical presentation and motivation towards achieving your goals. Most of my patients stay on my caseload for a minimum of eight to nine months, but it’s not uncommon for the bulk to stay on my schedule for years as they manage past traumas and deal with current stressors.

How do you ensure what I say stays private?

Your privacy is important to me. Yes, I am a mandatory reporter and will discuss this during our intake as there are specific requirements that require me to act. Outside of those specific situations, all our interactions are covered by HIPAA to include online correspondence.

Are you really a Dallas Cowboys fan?

Yes. A lifelong, diehard, ride-or-die kind of fan. This benefits you in two ways. One, I’m in my late 30’s so that makes me pretty loyal. Secondly, I really good at heartbreak and continue to model how healthy boundaries allows me some breathing room (usually September through January).
